Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), a leading IT and data management research and consulting firm, today announced it has released a new report titled “EMA Top 3 Decision Guide for Enterprise Software Platforms in 2020,” authored by Torsten Volk, managing research director of cloud-native, DevOps, machine learning and AI. EMA selects its Top 3 products based on the analysis of priorities and real-world challenges experienced by software developers, IT operators, DevOps engineers and security professionals.
“The EMA Top 3 report enables enterprises to benefit from the experiences, good and bad, of their peers when modernizing and automating their applications and, ultimately, moving to a hybrid cloud-driven DevOps and site reliability engineering paradigm,” says Volk. “The report provides decision-makers and influencers with concise and up-to-date market data and a short list of products that address the pain points and priorities reflected in this data.”
Some of the key research findings are:
- The number of Kubernetes-related operation issues increased by 45% between June 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020, while the number of developer challenges rose by 51% over the same time period.
- While there are no clear winners within the six Cloud-Native Computing Foundation-defined product categories and 29 subcategories, there is a trend toward a standardization on certain products.
- The fastest growing offerings of each of the three hyperscalers showed a 12-month growth of approximately 50%. These offerings were Azure DevOps, AWS Lambda, and Google Kubernetes Engine.
- Enterprises struggle with seemingly random disruptive issues when patching, upgrading and managing Kubernetes. The report provides an overview of these issues and their dependencies.
“Most enterprises are struggling to adjust to a world where applications are managed and scaled independently of their infrastructure,” says Guido Soeldner, managing partner at Soeldner Consult. “This report provides a series of very specific starting points for your most pressing DevOps or IT ops challenges.”
A detailed analysis of EMA’s research findings is available in the “EMA Top 3 Enterprise Decision Guide for 2020” report.
In addition to the research report, EMA launched a new EMA Top 3 website to deliver an ongoing stream of Top 3-related research content to provide readers with the latest data, opinions and product information to identify and harness technology trends.
